When We Find Ourselves Questioning

There are many times when we find ourselves questioning whether we are living up to who we truly are.
It's easy to feel like we need to constantly try to fit into someone else's idea of who we should be. Truth is, identifying your authentic self seems hard because so much of our society tries to tell us what we are supposed to be or do.

For example, social media can be a powerful tool for promoting self-love and self-esteem, but it can also be a breeding ground for comparison and pressure to constantly look a certain way.

Acknowledging Reality

You may see friends and influencers post their highlight reels of their lives and think, "I wish I could be that happy." But the reality is, what is for them is for them and it doesn't take away from what God has for you, and know that it's okay to not have everything you want right now.

Another reason identifying your authentic self can feel so challenging is that society often tells us that we're not supposed to be our true selves. We are constantly bombarded with messages about how we should act, think, dress, and feel. Sometimes this can lead to feelings of confusion and even fear about who we truly are.

But the good news is: You are uniquely made in the image AND likeness of God, recognizing and embracing your authentic self is the path to aligning with that reality and experiencing a more fulfilling life.

When you are true to your original design, you are more likely to feel confident, secure, and in alignment with your values and passions. That is where you'll understand PURPOSE.

More Meaningful Connections With Others

Plus, living in accordance with your authentic self can lead to more meaningful connections with others and a greater sense of self-worth and happiness.

So, don't be afraid to step outside of the box of conformity and find the person truly inside of you - The You that God created and designed you to be!

Four Simple but Impactful Actions To Break Free From Societal Expectations:

Stepping outside the box of conformity is a bold and beautiful step towards embracing your authentic self. Here are four simple but impactful actions you can take to break free from societal expectations and live more authentically:
  1. Reflect and Reconnect - Take time to reflect on your values, interests, and passions. What makes you feel most alive? Spend time in prayer or meditation, asking God to reveal the unique aspects of your design. Reconnecting with your core values and the interests that bring you joy is the first step towards living a life that truly reflects who you are.
  2. Embrace Your Uniqueness - Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God (Psalm 139:14). Celebrate the things that make you different. Whether it's your sense of humor, your artistic talent, or your way of thinking, these are gifts from God designed to reflect His creativity and love. By embracing your uniqueness, you honor the Creator and the original design He crafted in you.
  3. Set Boundaries Around Comparison - Social media can be a double-edged sword. Make a conscious effort to limit exposure to content that fuels comparison or makes you feel like you need to be someone you're not. Follow accounts that inspire and uplift you, and remember that everyone's journey is unique. Your path is between you and God, not a competition with others.
  4. Seek Supportive Communities - Surround yourself with people who appreciate you for who you are and encourage you to grow in your faith and authenticity. Whether it's a small group at church, a circle of friends, or a mentor, having a supportive community can help you stay grounded in your identity in Christ and resist the pressure to conform to the standards of culture and society.
Breaking free from "the box of conformity" is not always easy, but it is incredibly rewarding. As you take these steps, you'll find yourself living more aligned with the person God created you to be—full of purpose, joy, and authenticity. Remember, the journey to authenticity is a process, and every step you take is a step towards the freedom of being your truest self. Keep pressing forward, knowing that God is with you every step of the way, guiding and cheering you on to embrace the beautiful design He has for your life.
